The STC Astro Urban Sky SHO Filter accurately identifies the three crucial spectral lines, Ha, SII and OIII, in order to enhance the colours of nebulae and galaxies. The strict parfocal process is closely integrated with the German SCHOTT® B270 optical glass.
With a narrow bandpass of 7nm and a 95% penetration rate, SHO filters isolate specific spectrum produced by interstellar clouds. With the application of the new STC Astro Urban Sky SHO Filter, astronomical monochrome CMOS or CCD cameras can easily capture the colours of emission nebulae in urban skies.
Feature
Ultraviolet light emitted by young stars ionizes hydrogen atoms in the interstellar clouds, which emits various atomic hydrogen lines.Among them, the 656nm H-alpha emission line has the strongest intensity, which is the red colour that we often see in nebulae.Planetary nebulae and supernova remnants have a lot of heavy elements, which emit light when stimulated by the high energy of explosion. Doubly ionized oxygen OIII (500nm) and sulfur double emission line SII (672nm) are the two most common lines.M27 Dumbbell Nebula and NGC 7293 Helix Nebula located in constellation Aquarius are good targets for SHO imaging.
