Lumina-X Ultra-Low Reflection Coating — Pursuing the Pinnacle of Light
Diffusion filters like Cine Mist and Star Mist deliver their most dramatic glow effects when shooting toward light sources with wide apertures — precisely the conditions most prone to flare and ghosting. Starting with the MagVario magnetic filter system, STC has upgraded all filters to feature 0.1% ultra-low reflection coating, making your filter a flare-free partner in any shooting scenario.
Lumina derives from the Latin lumen (light), and X represents our pursuit of the ultimate. STC's Lumina-X coating is our commitment to delivering the finest light to every photographer — with more ultra-low reflection filter series to follow.
Ansel Adams said: "A good photograph is knowing where to stand."
STC believes a filter can transform what you see into the image in your mind.
Choosing the MagVario magnetic filter system gives professional photographers the speed to instantly select and swap the right filter — so you never miss the perfect composition worrying about filter changes. Combined with functional filter stacking, it brings the image in your mind to life.
Embedded Design — Perfect Integration
Unlike other magnetic filter systems that use step-up adapter rings, STC MagVario's magnetic base ring embeds directly into the lens diameter — no upsizing or adapter rings required. This means:
No additional tools are needed to install the magnetic base ring — simply use the filter front cap and leverage the super-strong magnetic force for effortless installation.
Stack & Combine — Multiply Your Creative Options
Leverage the power of magnetic stacking by combining Cine Mist or Star Mist with CPL (circular polarizer) or CND (variable ND + polarizer) to add exposure control and polarization to your diffusion shots — ideal for both stills and video.
Scenario A: Cine Mist 1/2 + CPL = Soft polarizer — softens lines, diffuses light, reduces contrast, and eliminates selective reflections.
Scenario B: Star Mist 1 + CND = Star Mist variable ND polarizer — softens lines, diffuses light, maintains contrast, and enables wide-aperture (f/1.4) video shooting in bright sunlight with controlled shutter speed. (Rotate the top filter to adjust ND value; rotate both together to increase polarization.)
Scenario C: Cine Mist 1/2 + Cine Mist 1/4 = A softer diffusion effect than 1/2 alone.

Important Disclaimers
Please follow the product instructions carefully when installing the magnetic base ring. Non-standard installation will result in reduced magnetic force at the intended position. After installation, standard internal pinch lens caps and other threaded filters or adapter rings cannot be used. To use other threaded adapter products, you must first remove the magnetic base ring. Any damage caused by non-compliant installation is not covered by warranty.
The ultra-thin frame design requires careful handling. Damage from drops or impacts causing deformation is not covered under warranty.
When using step-up adapter rings (larger to smaller diameter), please verify the adapter's internal thread depth. If the filter attaches but shows a visible gap, the thread depth is insufficient. If there is no gap but magnetic force is noticeably reduced, the thread is too deep. Both situations increase the risk of the filter or lens cap falling from incidental contact. Do not use non-cap installation methods with adapter rings.
If your lens has previously suffered an impact and the magnetic base ring cannot be installed smoothly, please stop installation. If the filter does not sit flush after installation, please contact us. These situations may indicate slight thread deformation that could cause the ring to slip out of position, reducing magnetic force and creating risk. If the ring is difficult to remove counterclockwise, stop and contact us — cross-threading will cause it to tighten further.

Ultra-low reflection is a liquid coating material applied to glass that reduces light reflection interference, minimizing ghosting and flare. However, this coating isn't omnipotent—it partially reduces anti-UV layer effectiveness by 20-30%. With modern camera CMOS manufacturing technology typically including anti-UV layers, CMOS protection remains unaffected. For protecting lens internal OCA adhesive, most situations maintain sufficient protection. Only in specific environments with prolonged, high-intensity shooting of UV light sources should you consider switching to standard UV protection filters.
Photographer Louis Liu's Experience:
After attending Thailand's Songkran Water Festival for two consecutive years, Louis Liu compared his results. In 2025, using a standard uv protector, water droplets on the lens caused noticeable flare and light spots. In 2026, switching to the MagVario Ultra-Low Reflection Protector, he experienced a dramatic improvement—even with water on the lens, his images remained clear and vibrant, free from flare interference.
The MagVario ultra-low reflection protective filter delivers exceptional 0.1% reflectance through advanced coating technology—on par with Nikon's renowned Zero-One AR Coat. Professional-grade clarity for discerning photographers.

✓ Magnetic base ring installs directly on correct diameter lenses
✓ Magnetic base ring installs directly on same-diameter screw-mount filters (converts to magnetic lens cap)
✓ Magnetic base ring installs on adapter rings (recommend thin adapter rings for stable, rattle-free installation; thick adapters may loosen)

Staying true to STC's commitment to the professional market, Star Mist filters are crafted from high-transmittance optical glass using professional polishing equipment to achieve exceptional resolution. Sub-micron irregular particles are embedded within the glass, diffracting highlights to make faint starlight in the night sky appear brilliantly luminous — hence the name "Star Mist." (Black Mist filters used at night cannot achieve the same effective star-point expansion as Star Mist.)
Compared to Black Mist, Star Mist offers superior control over both direct and diffused light in daytime highlights, without producing excessive or unpredictable effects, and without compromising contrast (reducing contrast is a fundamental characteristic of Black Mist for achieving a cinematic look). This makes Star Mist a modern, versatile filter suitable for all-day use. Portrait photographers who prefer precise control over light sources often favor Star Mist over Black Mist — it avoids the risk of uncontrollable glow overflow, delivering results closer to a point-light-source effect rather than broad, expansive halation.
