IR-CUT ND Filters

Ever notice that during long exposures in bright lighting conditions your images are unusually warm or even red when using an ND filter? Low-quality filters do not block infrared light, so color cast is introduced during long exposures, e.g. shooting a long exposure of the beach. STC's IR-CUT ND Filter is an ND filter specifically created to completely eliminate infrared light entering your camera.

As with all our ND filters, we grind our optics to flat perfection! The result is a sharper image that our competitors can't beat. You can capture cinematic motion blur, ghost images, deep sky and cloud texture, and mirror-like reflections on water, and other stunning effects your photography can't do without.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do ND filters cause warm or red color cast in long exposures?
Most standard ND filters do not block infrared (IR) light. During long exposures, IR light accumulates on the sensor and creates an unwanted warm or reddish color cast. STC's IR-CUT ND Filter includes a dedicated IR-cut layer that completely eliminates this problem.

What thread sizes and ND strengths are available?
Available in 37mm, 43mm, 46mm, 49mm, 52mm, 55mm, 58mm, 67mm, 72mm, 77mm, 82mm, 95mm, and 105mm. Filter types include ND8 (3-stop), ND16 (4-stop), ND32 (5-stop), ND64 (6-stop), ND400 (9-stop), and ND1000 (10-stop), depending on thread size.

What type of glass is used?
STC uses 1.1mm Schott optical glass, ground to flat perfection for edge-to-edge sharpness.

Will this filter cause vignetting?
The super slim 5mm shock-absorbent aluminum rim is designed to minimize vignetting, even with wide-angle lenses.

Is this filter compatible with lens caps from other brands?
Yes. The frame's thread design is compatible with lens caps of all makes.
